The anti-burnout club's 31 days of wellness

Words by Smiley Team

Burnout is a word which is bandied around a lot, but what can you actually do about it if you’re feeling physically and emotionally overwhelmed?

Bex Spiller founded The Anti-Burnout Club with the mission to offer a supportive, inclusive and accessible place for people to access all the expert guidance, tools and resources they need to thrive mentally and physically.

After experiencing burnout herself in her mid-20s, which manifested as high blood pressure and cortisol levels, she knew she had to take a more sustainable and compassionate approach to achieving her goals. “After my 30th birthday, I knew that I wanted to make some big changes in my life," she said. "And then, Covid hit. I watched as the whole world started working from home, finding it more and more difficult to shut off and leave work behind them. It wasn’t just me that was burning out, it was society as a whole.”

The Anti-Burnout Club is a soon-to-be social enterprise packed full of courses and lessons in yoga, Pilates, mindfulness, meditation, breath work, productivity, motivation, focus and much more.

31 days of wellness... for free

This March, you can take part in the Anti-Burnout Club’s 31 days of wellness initiative, completely free of charge. It features 31 days of bite sized classes to help improve your wellbeing, twice weekly live yoga, guest lessons from experts, prizes and much more.

"We’ve made it our mission to make self care as accessible as possible, which is why so many of our lessons are just a few minutes long with actionable tips you can take into your day," said Bex.

“I know it sounds so cliche, but if you don’t make time for your wellness then you’ll have to make time for your illness - take it from someone who has experienced that illness more than once because of burnout.”

Becoming a social enterprise

The Anti-Burnout Club is also on a mission to become a recognised social enterprise in the UK in an effort to give back to the community.

More than 50% of its current members are burnt out NHS employees, and they provide discounted memberships through the Blue Light Card, Benefits Everyone (Newcastle Upon Tyne NHS Trust), and NASUWT the teacher’s union.

It’s also the only platform which uses the Five Foundations of Wellness framework to cover all key aspects of wellbeing; the basics - such as food, sleep - physical health, connection, mental wellbeing and growth, which is all about learning and self-development.
