Compostable teabags will be way more accessible

Words by Abi Scaife

Tesco has announced that it will be making all of its teabags compostable by summer.

Amazing! Tell me more.

By April 2023, all of Tesco’s own brand tea bags will be compostable.

These new plant-based tea bags will allow shoppers to compost their tea bags through curbside food waste collections.

For those who are unsure, there will be information on the packet about how to correctly compost your teabags.

That sounds great.

And by summer, every teabag that Tesco sells, including branded ones, will be compostable. Amazing!

Adam Herriott, Sector Specialist – Resource Management, of Climate Action NGO, WRAP said:

“It’s great to hear of further moves by Tesco, a founding member of The UK Plastics Pact, to make positive changes to their products and make it easier for consumers to tackle plastic waste.

“Now more citizens can enjoy their morning cup of tea safe in the knowledge that once the bag is in their food waste caddy it will breakdown with the other organic material."

What a way to make your morning cuppa just that bit more planet friendly.
