Words by Smiley Team

Animal lovers around the world are turning their eyes to Ukraine, where abandoned pets are suffering as their owners are forced to flee to safety without them.

If you’re hoping to help these animals there are plenty of charities working hard to protect these lesser-considered war victims. Here are just a few of the organisations you can donate to or support in order to further their cause.

Pawsitivity

Dog protection charity Pawsitivity has launched an emergency fundraising drive to support canines in Ukraine. All donations to this appeal will go towards rescuing abandoned and injured dogs, providing them with food, veterinary care and a loving home in the safety of a nearby country.

Their Ukraine appeal focuses on dogs and cats which have been abandoned or injured due to the invasion. Already they have set up a shelter in the city of Starokostyantyniv in western Ukraine. To defend the lives of hundreds more cats and dogs, they hope to expand elsewhere.
