Off-grid living has become a bit of a trend in recent years, with people opting out of the national energy to live self-sufficiently. But this move is not necessarily better for the environment, especially when it involves burning non-sustainable wood. Stepping in to resolve this issue for around 75,000 people living off-grid across the UK as well as anyone who enjoys a wood fire, Love Logs is the UK’s first source of plastic-free, locally grown and sustainable firewood.

For every order made since its inception, the Midlands startup has planted two trees via the Eden Reforestation Projects, a number that has quickly grown to reach 4,000 trees in six months. They avoid plastic packaging and source their wood exclusively from sustainable woodlands in the UK.

Reflecting on their six months of business, co-founder Heather Emery said: “We’re tremendously proud to have stuck to our morals, and pioneer the way as a vocal, driving force for change despite our size and newness.

“With lockdown triggering a massive rise in entertaining outdoors and a surge in log burner sales as a result, we’re confident that this demand is only set to increase and become a major trend as we enter the coming spring and summer months.”

Co-founded by Emery and her partner, Paul Strachan, the independent start-up offers households more sustainable options when looking to buy firewood after the pair noticed a spike in outdoor entertaining across the UK. Love Logs quickly evolved into a seasonal business, fuelling log burners across the UK during the winter of 2020 and 2021.

As the trend continues, Love Logs will maintain high sustainability standards. As Emery puts it: “We’re pledging to remain fully sustainable as we continue to grow and always striving to do better within our current ethics and measures, from our product range, suppliers and packaging. No matter our size, we’re always working towards fully implementing closed-loop systems to be truly sustainable as a business.”

They stock a range of British firewood, kindling and natural firelighters and specialise in offering ‘Fuel Kit’ bundles for pizza ovens, chimineas, fire pits and log burners. All their firewood is certified as Woodsure Ready to Burn, meaning it’s cleaner-burning for the environment.
