Ending loneliness and Isolation

Smiley Talk
Description

LONELINESS is a feeling most of us will experience at some point in our lives. If loneliness becomes persistent it can turn into a serious physical or mental health issue, and may even lead to suicide.  Loneliness and isolation is a personal experience, it doesn’t discriminate against age or gender and is different for everyone.  Too many people aren’t getting the support they need in the UK and far too often help is not available, effective or appropriate.

TV Personality and tireless Loneliness Campaigner Dame Esther Rantzen will be opening this event, and together with our inspiring charity partners The Silver Line, Samaritans, Childline and Alertacall, we will raise awareness of the impact of loneliness and isolation on people’s lives. We will share positive stories of how with the right support people turned their lives around, tips on how to have difficult conversations about loneliness and hear from experts working hard to eradicate loneliness in the UK.

Panel discussion
Moderated by Broadcaster and Journalist Jane Little, the panel seeks to answer the question ‘how can we work together to end loneliness and isolation in the UK?’ Each panellist will raise awareness of their charities contribution to fighting the loneliness epidemic and share their calls-to-action on how we can all do our bit to help. Panellists include:
  • Sophie Andrews - CEO Silverline
  • Wendy Robinson - Childline Services Manager
  • Charlotte Simms - Research & Evidence Officer at Samaritans
  • James Batchelor - Founder of Alertacall
  • Moderator- Jane Little- Broadcaster and Journalist
