A mobile vet clinic to save donkeys abroad

Words by Abi Scaife

Charities are campaigning to end the cruel treatment of donkeys.

What’s the story?

Safe Haven For Donkey’s is working closely with the Bridge Foundation (El Gesr), a community charity in Egypt that is protecting the donkeys and mules that live there.

In Egypt, donkeys and mules are made to carry heavy loads of bricks weighing around 1.4 to 1.6 tonnes, (1,400 to 1,700kg). They are forced to move quickly, to prevent the unfired bricks from cracking in the heat.

Most of these animals are in need of veterinary treatment that simply isn’t available out in the Al Giza desert and are suffering unimaginable pain.

What are charities doing?

The two charities are working together to help bring veterinary treatment to these poor animals, and are urgently trying to raise £60,000 to fund the first year of an Egyptian mobile veterinary clinic.

This incredible campaign will help to rehabilitate and protect these poor animals from the treatment they are receiving, and hopefully help prevent other donkeys and mules from suffering the same fate.

If you’re interested in contributing to the campaign, you can donate by going to the Safe Haven For Donkey’s website.

Donating just £20 will be enough to help alleviate pain and give vital treatment for one donkey or mule.
