Princess Kate surprised a group of scouts in Cumbria as they work to earn their naturalist badges.

Tell Me More

Scouts from Cumbria's 1st Ulverston group were left overjoyed after a surprise visit from the Princess of Wales during the filming of a short piece promoting the benefits of time spent in nature.

The Princess, currently in remission from cancer, was joined by Chief Scout Dwayne Fields and young people from Greater Manchester as she took part in activities designed to help the Scouts earn their naturalist badges.

In a BBC article, the Princess was described as “very down to earth”, enthusiastically engaging with the group and presenting their hard-earned badges at the end of the day.

Scouting is an important movement for youth development, emphasising how it helps children grow in confidence and gain valuable outdoor and social skills.

The film, released by Kensington Palace and shot in the scenic Lake District, shows the Princess reflecting on the peace and clarity nature brings amidst a hectic modern world. Dwayne Fields, who became Chief Scout in 2024, echoed this sentiment, noting the power of disconnecting from screens and reconnecting with the outdoors.
