Massive technological advances have made massive changes, and will continue to transform  the way we work, live, and interact with technology, understanding its implications has never been more critical.

But to truly grasp the power and potential of AI, we need proper education. AI literacy—understanding how AI works, its ethical considerations, and its impact on society—is essential for everyone, not just tech experts. In an age where AI is shaping everything from healthcare to job markets, we must be equipped with the knowledge to navigate its complexities responsibly.

Here is a list of UK organisations that have taken significant strides to  improve AI literacy through accessible education:

Let’s start off by looking at resources for younger learners, Code Club offers an invaluable resource, providing free coding clubs across the UK. Their sessions include AI-focused workshops, helping children and young adults develop the skills to understand and create with AI from an early age.

By fostering coding skills and AI knowledge, Code Club is empowering the next generation to shape the future of technology.

The Alan Turing Institute

This organisation leads the way with resources that educate both the public and policymakers about the potential—and pitfalls—of AI. The Alan Turing Institute focuses on responsible AI development ensures that people have the knowledge to engage with AI critically and thoughtfully.

The Ada Lovelace Institute

Through the lens of ethical aspects of AI, The Ada Lovelace Institute is another key player in promoting AI literacy through education. Their research and events challenge people to think critically about AI’s role in society, particularly when it comes to fairness, transparency, and inclusivity.

By encouraging discussions around the responsible use of AI, they equip individuals with the tools to advocate for a just and equitable AI-driven future. They are currently working on a research project looking at the authenticity of using AI for data handling in schools.
