The Corporate Cause category at the Smiley Charity Film Awards offers businesses the opportunity to showcase the ways they’re making a positive impact. It’s a vital and influential part of the awards, giving us the chance to celebrate the meaningful partnerships between companies and the charities or causes they support to make a real difference in our world.

Bull & Wolf is a creative agency that combines innovation and strategy to help brands stand out. They collaborate with a range of clients to deliver impactful results and create meaningful connections with audiences.

For their 2025 submission to the Charity Film Awards, Bull & Wolf, in collaboration with Kingdom & Sparrow, welcomed local business leaders to an open discussion on subjects such as menopause, periods, and maternity leave during B Corp month. What began as a simple experiment grew into a meaningful and supportive space, inspiring conversations that have since led to the development of updated workplace policies.

Ahead of the Smiley Charity Film Awards ceremony, we caught up with Joe Turnbull, the Chief Founder of Bull & Wolf, to hear more about their film on women’s health in the workplace.

Why Did You Choose to Get Involved With This Cause?

March is B Corp month, and as this is our first year as part of this movement, we wanted to create content that broke taboos and encouraged conversations that aren't typically heard. Initially inspired by International Women's Day and the opportunity to shift the dialogue around menstrual health, we wanted to see business leaders openly engaging in these discussions.

By creating a safe space for conversation and showcasing businesses of all sizes, we hoped to demonstrate that these conversations should not only be normalised but are necessary. We aim to show that business leaders of all kinds can do more to support women in the workplace and understand the diverse impacts of menstrual health. We hope this video sparked conversations in many different workplaces in Cornwall and beyond.

Why is It So Important for Businesses to Get Involved in Charity Work and Giving Back?

Businesses need to be a force for good. I don't see any other sustainable way forward for us all. It's vitally important that businesses give back and, where possible, use their expertise and experience to get involved in charity work. This not only helps the organisations we support and work with grow and achieve their goals, but also allows our team to embed our core values and understand our place in society.

How Can Businesses Best Support the Causes They Are Involved With?

The simple answer is, of course, through donations and fundraising. Many organisations need vital funds more than ever, and we try to give away over 1% of our income every year in this way. However, many businesses have crucial expertise that charities can leverage, from creative and strategy to operations and marketing. By giving time, through initiatives like Charity of the Year or discounting rates for charities, businesses can help ensure that charities access the best possible resources at minimal cost.
