Cardi B's thrown mic raises $100,000 for charity

Words by Tess Becker

The rapper Cardi B made headlines recently when, in response to an onlooker throwing water at her on stage, she threw a microphone. Other than viral videos and controversy there wasn’t much to expect from another toxic fan interaction, but this time some good came out of it.

That mic auctioned off on eBay, bringing in $100,000 for charity. It was auctioned by the owner of an audio equipment hire company, named Scott Fisher.

He didn’t expect the money to go above $5,000 but the bidding skyrocketed.

Fisher said the proceeds would go to veterans' charity the Wounded Warrior Project, and Friendship Circle Las Vegas, which connects young volunteers with people with disabilities and special needs.

“I figured it would gain some attention nationally but the amount of news coverage has been staggering,” he said.
