CDP names 2020’s greenest companies

In the fight to combat impending climate disasters, the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) has added over 300 companies to its environmental A-list for their efforts to go green. This is a major increase on last year, despite the unprecedented challenges posed by Covid-19.

Among those who made the list were HP Inc, Mars, and Mitsubishi Electric. They were joined by pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, food producer Danone, fragrance and flavour business Firmenich and hundreds more.

The CDP’s A-List showcases the companies forefronting the mission to tackle climate change. Successful members are selected based on their annual environmental impact across three themes: water, forests and the climate.

This year has seen a 45 per cent increase in the number of companies achieving an A score since 2019. Efforts increased across all of three themes, suggesting that businesses are becoming increasingly sensitive to the planet’s needs.

Global director of corporations and supply chains at CDP, Dexter Galvin, said: “This week marks exactly five years since global leaders shook hands on the Paris Agreement. It’s encouraging that 70 per cent more companies are now reporting on their environmental action than in 2015, and that, this year, over 300 have reached the A-List.”

Join the struggle

Thousands of companies disclose through CDP at the request of investors and corporate buyers. You too can convince your company to join this vital programme.

Addressing the companies already participating, Galvin said: ‘We have the wind in our sails. Now, we need these pioneers to inspire the sluggish majority of corporates if the private sector is to take a leadership role when climate targets ratchet up at COP26 next year. The race is on.”
