10-year-old to chop 30cm of hair for charity

A 10-year-old boy from Dunstable, Bedfordshire, is getting ready for a big chop: having 30cm of blonde hair cut off in aid of charity.

George Agar, 10, of Priory Academy, has been growing his hair for more than two years to donate to the Little Princess Trust - the charity which creates wigs for children losing their hair through serious illness.

Not only that, but he's also raised over £1,100 in sponsorship money for them.

Now, he's decided it's time to have his locks shorn before the new school year - and the big event will take place on 1 September.

Mum Philippa, of Tilling Green, Dunstable, said: "George has always been a unique child and a real individual so I wasn't surprised when he said he wanted to grow his hair for the Little Princess Trust.

"He's suffered nasty comments along the way, but not once has he wanted to give up and just shrugged his shoulders at other people's narrow minds.

"All his family are so proud of him and I don't think he fully comprehends on what a truly lovely thing he is doing - which makes it even more special."

The Little Princess Trust provide real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment and other conditions.

Since 2006, they have provided more than 8,000 wigs and have given grants totalling more than £7 million towards research projects focused on finding more effective treatments for childhood cancers.
