Climate charity invites photographers to picture a better future

Words by Smiley Team

Climate charity Carbon Copy are asking for submissions towards their first ever photo exhibition, Picture This.

Photographers of all skill levels from across the country are invited to submit their images documenting collective climate action, on the theme of ‘thinking big, locally’.

The story behind the photo is more important to the charity than the quality of the images themselves, and submissions will be organised into six categories, including Carbon Zero Transport, Renewable Energy and Sustainable Buildings.

Images will be displayed in a virtual exhibition, and the entries will be judged by environmentalist, author and presenter Atul Kumar, along with the team from Carbon Copy. The top six will be invited to participate in a panel discussion as part of a launch event for the show in June.

Chief storyteller at carbon Copy Isabelle Sparrow said: “We know there are groups of people around the country working on incredible projects: not only those which are specifically set-up to reduce carbon emissions; but those for example focused on building community resilience, fighting inequality and improving health and wellbeing.

“These initiatives very often have hugely beneficial effects on our environment as well. With Picture This: we’d like to invite participants from a whole range of different organisations, to show how your project is making a difference - not just to the climate crisis, but to your community as a whole.”

Atul added: “I was delighted to be asked to support this exhibition. In my work I come across many fantastic organisations that are working to fight the climate crisis, and I know that visual communications, including photography, are fundamental to engaging a wide audience.”
