Teen works with charity to keep children warm

Generosity is not merely a noble act to be kind and play the role of the giver, it's also one of many ways to spread happiness and joy.

The pandemic hasn't stopped people from spreading happiness, as proven by a Double the Donation report, which shows:

:: Giving increased 4.1% over the past year
:: Online giving grew by 12.1% over the past year
:: 45% of worldwide donors are enrolled in a monthly giving program
:: Organizations with "missions related to international affairs experienced a 19.2% increase in overall donations over the past year.

And for one girl, she too realized it doesn’t take much to make a difference.

13-year-old Evie Prucka is helping keep the community warm by partnering with a local grassroots organization to gather coats for children in need.

The local charity, Creating a New Society, in Zionsville, Indiana, made a plea for help ahead of its seventh annual coat giveaway. The goal was to give away more than 500 coats.

Evie saw Creating A New Society's plea for coat donations on the local news station WRTV. She wanted to help, so she put a bin outside her home so people in the area could donate.

Gathering 500 to 600 coats for children up to 17 wasn't easy this year for the charity. Many of the items that were previously collected were stolen. It’s believed that the pandemic played a role in that incident with so many people facing homelessness.

Although the pandemic put a damper on how people give, it did not stop the cheer of giving. People are more aware of the needs of their community members, and want to help their neighbors and local businesses through the downturn.

Thankfully, people like Evie and her family were there to help – and so far, they've been able to collect 43 coats.

If you're interested in donating to Creating a New Society, you can do so by sending items to their dropoff location, William and Bluitt Funeral Home, 5252 E. 38th St Indianapolis, IN 46218. For monetary donations, call 1-317-400-0993.
