Science should be accessible.

And a trip to the Planetarium should inspire awe. From Deaf Science Day aka 1st March 2026 Dynamic Earth has announced that it will introduce British Sign Language interpretation to multiple Planetarium shows, becoming one of the first science centres in the UK to take this bold and brilliant step.

This is not simply a technical upgrade; it is a statement of intent. By embedding BSL into its world-class Planetarium experience, including live, in-house productions such as You Are Here and Don’t Panic, Dynamic Earth is ensuring that deaf visitors and BSL users can fully immerse themselves in the wonders of Earth and the wider universe.

From launch day, there will be one dedicated BSL-interpreted show daily, with clear signage offering BSL for other sessions on request. Even better, the recorded interpretations will be shared with partners in the British Association of Planetaria and the Association of Science and Discovery Centres, spreading the impact well beyond Edinburgh.

Supported by the Birkdale Trust, the initiative reflects a simple but powerful belief: science is for everyone. As Chris Murray MP noted, this is a meaningful step towards inclusive learning — and one that sets a new benchmark for others to follow.

The momentum does not stop at the stars. A newly funded Changing Places Toilet, delivered through the Scottish Government’s Changing Places Toilets Scotland Fund by Inspiring Scotland, will provide vital facilities for people with complex care needs. Add to that sensory-friendly sessions, relaxed openings, wheelchair access throughout, captions on exhibitions, multilingual audio guides, and support by the Royal Society of Chemistry Outreach Fund, and the picture becomes clear.

Dynamic Earth is not merely expanding access; it is expanding possibility. By removing barriers and championing inclusion, it is creating a space where curiosity knows no limits — and where every visitor, whatever their needs, can look up and feel that the universe is theirs to explore.
