Eight year old to toss Wimbledon coin for charity

Words by Abi Scaife

An eight-year-old will perform the Wimbledon coin toss on Centre Court on Sunday 16 July, representing WaterAid.

Tell me more.

Eight-year-old Mu’awwiz has raised an incredible £10,000 for WaterAid. Last year, he cycled three miles every day for 30 days during Ramadan to raise funds for the charity, and this year he completed a half ironman triathlon.

WaterAid was chosen to perform the coin toss and nominated Mu’awwiz, after being blown away by his dedication to fundraising.

What will happen on Sunday?

Mu’awwiz will perform the coin toss in front of an estimated worldwide audience of 1.2 billion. He said: “I can’t wait to do the coin toss, and actually seeing the players, it will be amazing.”

Mu’awwiz will be assisted with his on-court duties by Gerry Armstrong, Championships Referee, and he and his parents will enjoy a tour of the Clubhouse and lunch in the Competitors’ Restaurant before the match.
