Estonia legalises same-sex marriage

Words by Abi Scaife

Estonia has become one of the first countries in central Europe to legalise same-sex marriage.

Hooray! Tell me more!

The new law has been approved and will be in place in January 2024 - so all those eager beavers will have to wait until then to get married (but it is happening - we promise!).

Estonia has also become the 20th European country to legalise same-sex marriage, following countries like Switzerland, Spain, France and Germany.

What else?

Estonia's prime minister Kaja Kallas said, "My message [to central Europe] is that it's a difficult fight, but marriage and love is something that you have to promote."
