Young brothers' 12 challenges in 12 months

Words by Smiley Team

Fundraising brothers Dan and Connor – aged 10 and eight – have proved you’re never too young to give back to charity.

The duo, from Kent, are fundraising all year round for Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity, which supports families with seriously ill children.

They smashed their original £2,000 target and still have more than a month to go. This year, they’ve completed mud crawling, baked bean baths, boot fairs, mountain climbing, and more!

Their fundraising challenge kicked off in January 2021. “The boys’ new year’s resolution in 2021 was to raise some money for charity,” said their mum, Emma Higgins.

“They had so many wacky ideas that they decided to do a challenge every month throughout the year. So, Dan and Con's Charity Marathon began. They picked The Rainbow Trust because it was a smaller charity and they wanted to make a difference.”

More of the challenges they’ve completed in the past year include a 30 foot abseil, litter picking, a tree top challenge and an eating challenge. “The hardest was climbing Snowdon,” she says, “but this was also their best”.

The boys have one more challenge to do before the year is out – but they haven’t quite decided what it’ll be yet.

Danny and Connor have really enjoyed their year of fundraising and have said that if anyone else is thinking of doing something like this then… “Go for it!”

Rainbow Trust Children's Charity provides emotional and practical support to families who have a child with a life-threatening or terminal illness.
