Habitat for Humanity Great Britain (Habitat GB) has opened its first-ever ReStore charity shop, bringing a new, accessible approach to DIY and home renovation.
Officially launched by The Duke of Gloucester, Patron of Habitat GB, this innovative store is located in Romford and marks the beginning of a nationwide initiative to democratise DIY for people across the UK.
Funded by the generous contributions of players of the People’s Postcode Lottery, ReStore offers a wide range of new and gently used building materials, white goods, kitchens, and home improvement products.
The aim is to make home renovations affordable for all, rather than just the few. Located in a well-connected area with easy access to the M25 and the Elizabeth Line, the Romford store is set to become a central hub for DIY enthusiasts and those looking to improve their homes on a budget.
The proceeds from sales at ReStore will directly fund Habitat GB’s housing projects, helping to provide affordable homes and essential home repairs for families in need across the country. The store also champions sustainability by diverting gently used items from landfill, contributing to a circular economy and promoting environmental responsibility.
Dr Henrietta Blackmore, National Director of Habitat for Humanity GB, expressed her excitement about the opening, saying: “We are thrilled to launch Great Britain’s first ReStore, where conscious consumerism drives meaningful social impact. This store will not only provide affordable DIY materials but will also play a crucial role in supporting our efforts to create sustainable housing solutions and stronger communities.”
ReStore’s opening marks an important step in Habitat GB’s mission to create affordable housing while promoting social and environmental responsibility. It’s a pioneering project that offers both practical solutions and lasting impact for communities across the UK.
