They call today Blue Monday because it’s supposedly the most depressing day of the year. But here are 5 positive news stories your January brain might not want you to know.

1. Renewable energy is officially taking over from coal

Solar and wind are now rolling out faster than any power source in history - and in many countries, renewables are already generating more electricity than fossil fuels.

That means cleaner air, cheaper energy, and a huge step towards a more sustainable future.

2. Over 1 million people in the UK signed up to volunteer last year

From food banks and shelters to hospitals and community projects, more than a million people stepped up to support others in 2025.

That’s millions of hours of kindness, care, and community spirit - proving that when times get tough, people show up for each other.

3. Endangered animals are making real comebacks

Whales, wolves and beavers are returning to ecosystems they disappeared from decades ago.

Conservation efforts are working. Habitats are recovering. And nature is slowly rebuilding itself - one species at a time.

It’s one of the clearest signs that when humans protect the planet, the planet responds.

4. Electric vehicles are now the fastest-selling car type in history

EVs are being adopted faster than any other type of car ever has been.

That means quieter streets, cleaner air in towns and cities, and fewer emissions warming our planet. The shift to cleaner transport is no longer “coming soon” - it’s already here.

5. Parkrun now brings over a quarter of a million people together every weekend

Every Saturday morning, more than 250,000 people lace up their trainers and head to their local park for a free 5K run, jog or walk.

It’s building healthier bodies, stronger communities, and a sense of belonging - one finish line at a time.

So next time the headlines feel heavy, remember - there’s always good news happening, and it’s worth taking a moment to notice it.
