How Amazon is helping keep kids safe

Words by Smiley Team

Bringing together new parents and caregivers with injury prevention experts, Amazon is partnering with the nonprofit organisation Safe Kids Worldwide. Their campaign will offer customers child safety tips to protect children from injuries such as traffic injuries, falls, and burns, which few might realise are the leading cause of children’s deaths in the United States.

Over the next year, the partners will hold a series of events across the US, offering new parents child safety tips on helmet and bicycle safety, car seat safety and safe sleep practices.

“We know injury prevention works, but too many parents are not getting the information they need to keep their kids safe,” said Torine Creppy, president of Safe Kids Worldwide. “We’re excited to expand our reach by working with a partner like Amazon, which so clearly shares our commitment to safety.”

“Amazon is committed to the safety of all of our customers and their families, which is why we are proud to partner with Safe Kids on this important topic,” said Carletta Ooton, Amazon’s vice president of product assurance, risk and security. “Whether it’s a car seat, a toy, or a bicycle we want to make it easier for new parents to learn about ways to keep kids safe, including how to choose and properly use these products.”

Spread the safety net for children worldwide

From as far back as 1988, the nonprofit organisation has joined forces with leading companies to spread awareness of the risks faced by children and sharing child safety tips.

Safe Kids Worldwide helps promote child safety at home and outside, protecting kids from preventable injuries. They are supported by a network of over 400 coalitions in the US and with partners in 33 countries to reduce traffic injuries, drownings, falls, burns, poisonings and more. Since 1988, it has helped reduce the US child mortality rate from injuries by nearly 60 per cent.
