Supporting charities through film, events and media

Words by Smiley Team

On International Day of Charity, a day which serves to increase and enhance social responsibility across the entire world, we’re sharing how Smiley Movement – the platform for people driving positive change – supports and engages with local and international charities to help promote their causes.

The 6th Charity Film Awards is one way it does this – beacause this year, the awards joined forces with Smiley Movement. Launched five years ago, the Charity Film Awards is the world’s biggest campaign to promote cause-based films.

Since its creation, more than 2,000 causes have benefitted from the awards, gaining exposure, donations and volunteers. And more than a quarter of a million members of the public have voted in the awards, between 5-10% of which also donate to the charities.

Through media coverage the awards have reached nearly 500 million people around the world, boosting the profile of organisations and raising awareness about their causes. Keep an eye out for when public voting opens to support your favourite charity films in the 2021 awards

Smiley Movement also drives its mission to support local and international charities through Smiley News, a daily source of uplifting news that is both positive and purposeful, and inspires and drives action. It takes a constructive journalism approach, highlighting solutions to the current world problems and inspiring people to feel optimistic about the future.

All the content aligns with the broader aims of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and promotes calls to action for positive change.

Featuring charities – both big and small – is an important part of this, to help drum up awareness of their cause, as well as encourage people to volunteer or donate.

Smiley Movement also runs live and virtual events in the UK, Smiley Talks, featuring interviews and panel discussions with charity speakers, campaigners and educators tackling real issues and promoting proven strategies.
