Smiley News is no stranger to the impact Jamal Edwards MBE has had on many creatives and young people in the UK, we even highlighted him as one of our positive icons back in July – read here.

JESBT Inaugural Dinner

But this time, the blue carpet has been rolled out to welcome the patrons, friends and beneficiaries of the Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust (JESB) and we got the honour of speaking to these special guests.

In attendance at their inaugural dinner were musicians from the likes of Pixie Lott and Jessie J to actors such as  Denise Welsh and Laura Pradelska. Many who attended had a deep connection to Jamal and/or his philosophy.

His philosophy was founded on the guiding principle of believing in yourself to achieve your goals and that is what this charity continues to do in his honour for many young children to come.

The Trust was founded by Jamal’s mother, Brenda Edwards, after his passing in 2022. Together with his sister, Tanisha, they have continued Jamal’s legacy by supporting young people through initiatives that focus on education, mental health, and providing access to opportunities in the creative industries.

The Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust empowers the next generation to believe in themselves and achieve their potential - values that were at the heart of everything Jamal stood for.
