Donating to charity with BTS' Jin

Words by Abi Scaife

Jin is back! After completing his mandatory military service, Jin has returned - and to celebrate, we decided to remind you of some of his incredible charity work.

Just like BTS, Jin is known for being incredibly philanthropic - he regularly donates to different charities, often keeping the donations quiet for long periods of time. It is clear that this is something he is doing because he truly cares and wants to make a difference, rather than for clout.

Many ARMYs will remember Jjangu, Jin’s dog who sadly passed away in 2017; before the dog came to Jin, he was abandoned and subsequently rescued by an animal rescue organisation.

Jin’s family rescued Jjangu and cared for him until he died - and since then, Jin has donated to a number of different animal welfare charities.

In December 2018, Jin donated food, blankets, and dishes to the Korean Animal Welfare Association, an incredible charity that is the largest nonprofit organisation for animals in Korea.

They primarily campaign against cruelty to animals but have a companion shelter that protects animals in need, where Jin’s donation has gone on to do a lot of good.

BTS’ Visual also donated to KARA, the Korean Animal Rights Advocates, a brilliant organisation that also fights for animal rights in South Korea.

Jin was able to donate 322kg of food to KARA, as well as other gifts, which helped to support KARA in their mission to protect and free animals from exploitation.

The singer has been a monthly donor to UNICEF Korea since May 2018, though at the time he requested that the donations be kept private.

His generosity was only revealed when he donated so much money that he joined the UNICEF Korea Honor’s Club the following year for donating over ₩100 million (around £55,000).

Further showing his love of animals, when Jin won the large monetary prize on the game show "You Quiz on the Block”, he joked about going home and taking a money bath.

Instead, it was later revealed that he donated the money to Beagle Rescue Network, an incredible charity that rescues beagles from animal testing, and campaigns against the practice. The money was used to buy food for the rescued dogs, helping to reduce the cost of their care.

In a blog post, The Beagle Rescue Network said:

“BTS Jin has sponsored the snacks for babies. Thank you very much. ^^ Handsome Jin. You're so cool!!!” in response to his donation, thanking him profusely for helping their cause.

It’s amazing to see such a talented and popular singer engage with charity and work to make the world a better place!
