The UK has appointed an official nature envoy, with the aim of preventing species declines worldwide.
Ruth Davis is the new special representative for nature, is a former environmental campaigner who will be engaging in global talks around how we can protect existing species and prevent their numbers from dropping.
This is the first part of the UK government’s plan to help protect our environment, and Ruth will report to the foreign secretary, David Lammy, and the environment secretary, Steve Reed as part of her role.
This is an incredible step forward for not only protecting our environment but making those protections an unshakeable part of UK law.
