It’s always good to see people use their platform and status for good and Nick Maughan is no expectation.

Nick is known throughout the investment and charitable world for his unwavering commitment to his diverse array of charitable causes. Luckily, his work has not gone unnoticed as he was awarded a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to philanthropy in the  2024 Birthday Honours.

Spending many years in his career as an investor, Nick uses his earnings to push positive causes in environment, education and health, which also inspired him to start his own foundation.

The Nick Maughan Foundation (NMF)

The Nick Maughan Foundation (NMF) was established to further a range of philanthropic initiatives in education, the environment and civic support schemes for disenfranchised communities. Founded at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, NMF's leading initiative, BoxWise, provides a free 10-week boxing program along with mentoring support for disadvantaged young people.

Besides this, the foundation does a lot of work to support children and young people.

Charity Connections

As stated previously, Nick’s key areas of focus are education, environmental sustainability, and health. While he focuses on these areas within his own foundation, he is also involved in a very very long list of charitable organisations that also aim to address these areas in their approach.

Taking on a range of roles within each such as investor, patron and trustee, he is active in other charities and organisations as he is a strong believer in working together with local communities for a common goal.

He funds scholarships in London for talented children from low-income families and supports students pursuing master's degrees and PhDs. Additionally, he sponsors Glasgow's Charlie Miller Football Academy and contributed to the construction of the Berkshire Youth Trust's Waterside Centre in Newbury. His efforts also include participation in the Fair Shot campaign with the Refugee Council and initiatives aimed at supporting youth at risk of crime through the Centre for Social Justice. As a patron, Nick has facilitated first-aid training for over 25,000 young people through the British charity StreetDoctors and serves as a patron for the medical research charity Womb Transplant UK.

His work does not only take place in the UK, he is a trustee of Tusk Trust, an African wildlife conservation charity, to which he donated £1 million and matched all donations up to £150,000 made through The Times' Annual Christmas Appeal. Furthermore, Nick supports the construction and operation of social infrastructure projects in Eastern Uganda, including the region's largest maternity hospital, the Nick Maughan Maternity Centre, the NMF Riverside School, and the NMF IT Centre. He is also a patron of the African development charity Spotlight on Africa.

This may only scratch the surface of what Nick does for humanitarian and charitable endeavours, but he doesn’t look like he’s stopping anytime soon.
