Over 100 charities voice support for trans rights

Words by Tess Becker

Trans rights have taken center stage in many places around the world. In the US there have been over 490 anti-LGBTQ+ laws put up to legislation. As a show of support, over 100 charity leaders have signed a pledge to stand up for the trans community and ensure that the charity sector is a safe and welcoming place for trans and non-binary people.

This comes as a part of the Stand With Trans campaign charities including Oxfam, Samaritans, Mermaids, and LGBT Foundation have offered their support for the trans community.

Charity So Straight created the pledge as a means for charity leaders to “reiterate our absolute commitment to supporting the rights of our trans, non-binary, and gender diverse communities.”

This is a rally after many organizations faced anti-trans backlash during Pride month for voicing support for the community.

“We must stand united together against this hate and offer support whenever any of us are subjected to an attack by the transphobic movement,” Charity So Straight said in a statement. “We know that we’re not all in the same place with regards to trans equity, indeed, many of us are very early in our journey when it comes to discussing trans and non-binary inclusion, but wherever you might be on your organisations journey, we encourage you to stand alongside us, learn alongside us, and commit to ensuring that we are offering spaces where trans and non-binary people are simply able to be themselves, free from discrimination, prejudice and hate.”
