When Paul Clark lost his leg back in 2016, he thought his life was over. Fast forward to 2022 and he has raised more than £15,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation by taking on six Conqueror Challenges.
Conqueror Challenges are fitness challenges that can take you, virtually, all over the world. From the Marathon to Athens, to climbing Mount Everest – or even taking the ring to Mordor – there's a journey that suits everyone. The challenges can be done at your own speed and through your favourite exercise. And, using their calculator, you can even convert time spent doing yoga to kilometres covered in a marathon.
“I never ever thought I would be completing 5,150 miles around some of the world's most beautiful places,” said Paul, of the Conqueror Challenges and raising money.
The best part of the Conqueror Challenges is that, for every 20% of your challenge, you can choose whether Conqueror donates to planting a tree or removing 10 plastic bottles from our oceans.
Paul decided to raise money for the Terry Fox Foundation during these challenges. The cancer charity was created after a Canadian athlete, Terry Fox, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma at 18. "The experience ignited in him a fierce determination to bring an end to the suffering cancer causes," say the Foundation.
"His personal experience and research led him to the conclusion that more money was needed for cancer research. And so, on April 12, 1980, Terry dipped his artificial leg in the Atlantic Ocean and proceeded to change the world.
Despite already raising £15,000 for charity, Paul shows no sign of stopping – or even slowing down.
“My goals for 2022 are to continue to push myself to the limit,” said Paul. “No matter what setbacks we have, we can all reach the summit – as shown when I reached the summit of Mount Snowdon having climbed the mountain on crutches.”
