The yearly event, which encouraged shoppers to donate a few pence while paying digitally, saw over 144,000 individual donations, benefiting numerous vital charities.

This year’s campaign, supported by a growing number of partners, not only raised significant funds on the day itself but also created lasting awareness for the power of micro-donations.

Over the course of the week from 25th to 31st August, 1,130,000 donations were made across all Pennies’ partners, helping charities like Cancer Research UKSamaritansMacmillan Cancer Support, and many others.

How Was This Possible?

Powered by digital generosity that was further amplified thanks to the support of renowned brands such as Gatwick Airport, JD Group, and Greene King, all of whom participated in raising awareness for the cause. Worldpay, a key partner, also played a crucial role by match-funding donations at Cotswold Outdoor Group stores and Greene King pubs, adding £2,262 to the total raised.

Alison Hutchinson CBE, CEO of Pennies, commented: “Micro-Donation Day is a special moment to celebrate the generosity people show every day. It’s inspiring to see how much we’ve raised this year, proving that every penny counts, and when people come together, the results are truly life-changing.”

This growing movement shows that small contributions, made at the checkout during everyday transactions, can collectively create a monumental impact, ensuring charities continue their crucial work.

As Pete Wickes, General Manager of Worldpay, added, “It’s amazing to see how just a few pennies can make such a big difference.”
