From charity challenges and conservation wins to cleaner energy and clever ideas helping wildlife, this week's stories are a reminder that positive change is happening all around us. We've rounded up five uplifting headlines from across the globe that prove people, communities, and nature are capable of incredible things.

A Scottish football fan walks 3,000 miles for charity

A Scottish football supporter has completed an extraordinary journey across the United States, raising £1 million for charity along the way.

Twenty-two-year-old Craig Ferguson walked more than 3,000 miles from Los Angeles to Boston before making his way to Scotland's World Cup opening match. He completed the challenge wearing his kilt throughout the entire trek, inspiring thousands of supporters and donors along the route.

There was just one problem. After successfully completing the challenge, Craig's beloved kilt was sadly lost in transit in New York City. So if anyone happens to spot a wandering Scottish kilt somewhere in the Big Apple, we'd love to see it reunited with its owner.

Tiny escape routes are helping urban wildlife

Cities across the Netherlands are installing miniature staircases and ramps along waterways and storm drains to help animals find their way back to safety.

The simple structures are being used by hedgehogs, ducks, stray cats and other animals that can become trapped in canals or drainage systems.

It's a small intervention that's making a big difference for local wildlife and showing how thoughtful urban design can support the creatures we share our cities with.

Amazon rainforest trees are getting bigger

Did you know that many trees in the Amazon rainforest are actually increasing in size?

A major study of the world's largest rainforest found that the average size of Amazonian trees is growing by around 3.2% every decade. Larger trees are able to store more carbon, helping the rainforest absorb greater amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

It's a fascinating reminder of the important role healthy ecosystems play in regulating our climate.

Solar power overtakes coal in the United States

For the first time ever, solar energy generated more electricity than coal in the United States during a single month.

The milestone reflects the rapid growth of renewable energy and marks an important shift away from fossil fuels. As solar technology becomes more affordable and widely available, it continues to play an increasingly significant role in the transition to cleaner energy.

It's a major climate milestone and a glimpse of how the global energy landscape is changing.

Europe removes a record number of dams

Europe has reconnected more than 2,300 miles of rivers and waterways after removing a record number of obsolete dams and barriers last year.

The removals allow fish and other wildlife to move more freely through river systems, improving biodiversity and helping ecosystems recover.

Conservationists have described the achievement as a major victory for nature and a powerful example of environmental restoration in action.

There you have it — this week’s positive headlines making the world a little brighter.
