The 'Smile Together Brighter Smiles' team found a way to deliver education during the pandemic

Words by Smiley Team

Smile Together - a leading healthcare social enterprise and community interest company - are helping families across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly maintain a healthy smile. Although during the pandemic dental practices were closed for routine care, the Smile Together Brighter Smiles team were also unable to visit primary schools, nurseries and family hubs across the country delivering education as they normally would.

To coincide with National Smile Month 2020 and to help younger children understand the importance of looking after their teeth, the Brighter Smiles team of Jo, Jenna and their trusty dragons created four short films aimed at children aged 4-6.

Smile Together is a long-term proud supporter of National Smile Month, the Oral Health Foundation’s important annual campaign around the importance of dental hygiene. In 2019, Brighter Smiles lead dental nurse Jo Trevelyan won their Nominate A Smile Competition based on her passion and dedication to oral health education.

The films are based on what the team  does in the educational setting and are designed to engage the children at home or in the classroom.

The films are accessible via their Patient Information Zone

They have also been shortlisted in the Dental Awards 2020 for ‘Best National Smile Month Campaign’ which saw them open a brand-new, purpose-designed, accessible dental centre for patients, with specialist facilities previously unavailable in Cornwall.
