The 84-year-old 'man with a pram' raising £1m for charity

Words by Abi Scaife

An 84-year-old man has embarked on a quest to raise one million pounds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Amazing! Tell me more.

John Burkhill is affectionately known around Sheffield as ‘The Man With The Pram’, as he regularly does marathons and other fundraisers with his pram, his green wig, and his giant foam finger.

Why is he so dedicated?

John sadly lost his wife, June, to cancer a year after they lost their daughter, Karen, during a routine operation. Since then, he has dedicated his life to raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support - after reaching his original goal of raising £250,000 for the charity, he decided to up the ante and aim for £1 million.

As of April 18th 2023, John has been in 1,038 competitive races to raise funds for Macmillan! His JustGiving Page is currently sitting at £927,246 - 92% of his target.

If you want to help John reach his goal of £1 million for Macmillan, you can do so by donating to his JustGiving page. If you want to give back to Macmillan by doing your own fundraiser or volunteering, you can find out more on their website.
