16-year-old Jack and his 86-year-old great grandmother are gearing up to take the sky-dive of a lifetime to raise money for a cancer charity. .
Hailing from Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, the pair has currently raised over £150,000 for Young Lives vs Cancer, a charity that provides specialist support for children and young people with cancer, as well as their families. As a baby, Jack was diagnosed with a brain tumour and after seven rounds of chemotherapy, countless therapies and legally registering as blind, Jack wants to return the favour.
Jack is already a seasoned fundraising master as this is his latest challenge to raise the last £50,000 for the charity. To date, Jack has participated in the mini North Run, the junior North Run, raffles, bake sales, family fun days, and memory challenges, just to name a few.
In a statement Jack said: “I want to raise money for Young Lives vs Cancer because they helped my family when I was a baby and I want to give back to other young people who aren’t as lucky as I am.
“I am a thrill seeker, and I’ve done a zip wire and I love rollercoasters, so I am taking it to a NEW level!”
Jack’s skydive is taking place on 20th July. To donate to his mission, JustGiving fundraising page can be found here: www.justgiving.com/page/sam-hughes-1707841745519
