Upcycled clothing company collects 30M pounds of plastic from the sea

Words by Blyth Brentnall

Since 2017, the upcycled apparel company, 4ocean, has been hauling plastic waste from the ocean and transforming it into clothing and accessories.

The company has just passed an incredible milestone, having collected 30 million pounds of plastic from the sea - the equivalent in weight to 120,000 full-size fridges.

Wow! That’s a lot of plastic waste!

Isn’t it just? And they achieved this with very few people.

“When they say a small group of dedicated people can change the world, believe them,” said Alex Schulze, 4ocean’s CEO and Co-Founder.

But 4ocean is aware that plastic pollution is a vast problem that requires much more work in order to solve it.

“Reaching 30 million pounds of plastic and trash removed from the oceans is just the first step. We still have a lot of work to do,” Alex added.
