Our presenter Dom headed to the Felix Project and FareShare to spend the day volunteering. What he found was a fast-moving, purpose-driven operation rescuing perfectly good surplus food and getting it to the people who need it most. From sorting fresh produce to packing crates and loading vans, every moment plays a part in tackling food waste and food insecurity across the UK.

The Felix Project and FareShare are two of the country’s leading food redistribution charities, working with supermarkets, wholesalers, and farms to save food that would otherwise go to waste. Between them, they operate across multiple depots and support over 1,200 charities and community organisations—from food banks and schools to shelters and community kitchens—helping deliver millions of meals every year.

It’s hands-on, it’s high-impact, and it’s powered by people. Whether you’ve got a few hours to spare or want to make it a regular thing, volunteering is a simple way to do something genuinely meaningful. If you want to get involved, hit the link and sign up - your time could help put food on someone’s plate.
