Unfortunately, we still live in a world where many people are going without sufficient access to food. A YouGov survey found that in June 2023, 17% of households were “food insecure”. This means they often went a day without food or ate less. With this issue only becoming more prevalent as country-wide concerns grow due to cost of living concerns, there has been an increased reliance on charity efforts and community food banks to help keep people fed.

Here are 4 charities that are filling up the cup of others.

The Felix Project

The Felix Project is a charitable organisation based in London that works to reduce food waste and food poverty by collecting surplus food from suppliers and redistributing it to charities and schools. Their mission is to tackle both hunger and food waste by ensuring that good quality, nutritious food reaches those in need. Through their efforts, they aim to make a positive impact on the community and help alleviate food insecurity.

Fare Share

FareShare is a UK-based charity that fights hunger and food waste by redistributing surplus food to charities and community groups. They work with food companies to rescue good quality, in-date food that would otherwise go to waste, and deliver it to organisations that support vulnerable individuals and families. FareShare's mission is to provide nutritious meals to those in need while also reducing food waste and its environmental impact. They play a crucial role in addressing food poverty and promoting sustainability in the food industry.

Food4Heroes

Food4Heroes, a charity based in the UK, offers nutritious meals to frontline healthcare workers amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Collaborating with local restaurants and catering companies, they prepare and distribute meals to hospitals, care homes, and various healthcare facilities. Through providing healthcare workers with tasty and nourishing food, Food4Heroes seeks to express gratitude for their dedication and boost their spirits during difficult circumstances. The charity depends on donations and volunteers to sustain their vital mission of feeding those who are tirelessly safeguarding and maintaining community well-being.

Magic Breakfast

Magic Breakfast believes no child should go to school hungry.  They work to provide nourishing breakfasts to schools in disadvantaged regions. With the help of collaborating with schools, they create breakfast clubs where children can enjoy a nutritious meal before starting their day. By ensuring that children have access to a healthy breakfast, Magic Breakfast improves attendance, concentration, and overall well-being, leading to enhanced academic success. The charity relies on donations and partnerships to continue their vital work in combating food insecurity and supporting children's development.
