Aldi's Christmas advert is one filled with purpose

Words by Smiley Team

Aldi has released its much-anticipated Christmas advert and shared its festive pledge, which has the promise of giving back to families in need.

The budget supermarket shared the story of Ebanana Scrooge, who – unlike the famous Kevin the Carrot – hates Christmas.

Thankfully, on a journey through Christmas cheer, Kevin convinces Ebanana that the festive period can be a joyful time for everyone – as long as kindness is part of it.

The duo come across Marcus “Radishford” (a talking radish, of course), who Kevin exclaims is “always helping children” – and it features the footballer’s voice himself.

“The moral of the story, the answer you’ll find,” the advert finishes, “for you to be happy, you need to be kind.”

At the end of the advert, Aldi shares its pledge of donating 1.8 million meals to families over the festive period.

The supermarket is working with Neighbourly, which links businesses to charitable organisations in local communities, to donate its surplus food to local causes.

Speaking on the partnership, Neighbourly chief executive Steve Butterworth said: “We’re delighted to be supporting Aldi in their year-round food redistribution programme and in their commitment to donate 1.8 million meals this Christmas.

“These donations will help a record number of families across the UK during what is expected to be the busiest year on record for local charities and causes.”

Aldi UK marketing director Sean McGinty said: “Christmas is a time for hope, and we’re privileged to be working with Marcus, who is one of the most inspirational young people in the UK, having done so much in the past 18 months to help provide free school meals for children.”
