As communities across the US recover from Hurricane Ida, Apple CEO Tim Cook has announced that the tech giant will donate to support them.
On 29 August the tropical storm hit the southern state of Louisiana affecting tens of thousands of people in what experts say is a climate-caused disaster. Offering some relief in this difficult time, Apple will send funding to bolster the efforts to support those worse hit.
“Our thoughts are with everyone in Hurricane Ida’s path, especially those sheltering in Louisiana, and we’re grateful for the first responders who are helping keep communities safe,” Tim said in a Tweet, adding: “Apple will be donating to relief and recovery efforts on the ground.”
The hurricane hit land near Port Fourchon, Louisiana on Sunday. With wind speeds of up to 165 km/h it was the second most ferocious hurricane on record to hit the US state, after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Apple frequently supports relief efforts, helping those impacted by natural disasters around the world. This most recent donation builds on contributions to disadvantaged, vulnerable or disaster-struck communities elsewhere.

In the past they have donated to flood victims in Germany as well as support throughout the pandemic and to initiatives driving social equality.
Among the charities providing emergency aid to hurricane victims is the American Red Cross. The organisation is providing safe shelter, food and support to those impacted from the Gulf Coast to the Mid-Atlantic.
