A charity in Scotland is making waves with one of the first meta-verse charity shops.
That’s right - a virtual charity shop! There’s something to be said for moving with the times, and Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland (CHSS) is certainly doing that.
The charity is working with researchers from the University of Strathclyde’s Business School (SBS) to create the digital shop and investigate how it can best be used to raise some much-needed funds for CHSS.
The charity supports people struggling with chest, heart and stroke-related conditions, including long-Covid, and has over 40 physical charity shops already in place in Scotland.
The virtual charity shop is just the beginning, as CHSS is investigating how the virtual world can be used to expand its reach even more. They are playing with the idea of virtual exercise classes to help benefit those with chest, heart and stroke problems.
Billy Farrell, Head of Income Generation at CHSS said: “This growth will help us towards our goal of reaching 175,000 individuals affected by our conditions per year by 2028. The metaverse presents an exciting opportunity for CHSS and we’re eager to establish our presence within this innovative platform.
“We’re delighted to be working with Strathclyde Business School and see an opportunity to engage with people across the globe, which could act as a platform for the expansion and scaling up of our charitable endeavours.”
If you, or someone you know, has been affected by a chest, heart or stroke-related health condition, consider getting involved with Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland. You can do this through donation, or volunteering, with more information available on their website.
