This past weekend pop sensation Chappell Roan, launched her very own nonprofit.
Titled in reference to Chappell’s third studio album,The Midwest Princess Project has already raised over $400,000 through ticket sales of her pop-up Visions of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things shows.
Here is everything you need to know, especially if you are planning to see Chappell on tour soon!
Chappell Roan has a reputation for being outspoken in and outside of her music, especially for LGBTQIA+ rights and this instance is no different. The Midwest Princess Project will add strength to her words and continue to support young trans and LGBTQIA folks.
A proportion of ticket sales for her tour and show dates will be donated to various charities and organisations that have a positive impact especially on trans youth in their communities, as well as the wider LGBTQIA+.
Chappell’s Visions of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things tour hosted representatives across many US cities. This included:
For New York: Ali Forney Center, which protects youth at risk of homelessness, and the LGBT Center which offers a safe community environment for LGBTQ New Yorkers.
For LA: Trans Wellness Center is a resource and information hub for Non-binary and Trans people, and TransLatin@ Coalition is a grassroots organisation that campaigns for care, representation and support for Transgender, Gender Expansive, and Intersex Latine people.
For Missouri: The GLO Center provides education, resources and advocacy for LGBTQ+ people, and the Center Project, which offers community, learning and support.
Many others have taken this approach to support causes close to their hearts while on tour. Some names include Olivia Rodrigo who advocated against the regulation of sexual and reproductive rights, and Sabrina Carpenter partnered with PLUS1 to support animal welfare, LGBTQ+ rights and mental health support.
Additionally bands like Coldplay have been really conscious about their effect on the environment and have made plenty of changes to reduce their carbon footprint.
At Smiley Movement, we elevate the work of charities across the world. Here are three charities whose causes align with the themes in this post.
The Trevor Project. A leading US organisation providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ+ youth through 24/7 helplines, chat, and advocacy. Learn more.
Trans Lifeline. A grassroots hotline and microgrant organisation offering emotional and financial support to transgender people in need, run entirely by trans staff and volunteers. Discover more.
GLSEN. A national nonprofit working to create safe, inclusive schools for LGBTQ+ students through educator training, policy advocacy and youth leadership programmes. Find out more.
