Positive ways to help the people of Afghanistan

While the mainstream media covers the disaster in Afghanistan, the positive news is that incredible initiatives have leapt to help, providing basic supplies, medical support and more. 

Amid the crisis, onlookers from abroad can play a role in helping relief efforts. If you’re wondering ‘How can I help Afghanistan?’ there are plenty of positive initiatives to support. Here is a selection of charities working on the frontline in Afghanistan to support the most vulnerable.

The British Red Cross

With workers helping in all 34 of Afghanistan’s provinces, The Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is a vital organisation supporting the country’s population. They deliver essential supplies, support local medical facilities and operate more than 150 health centres and clinics there. As the UK’s largest refugee services, the charity is working with those arriving in the UK to ensure their needs are met.

International Rescue Committee

Offering people help to rebuild their lives following disasters, the International Rescue Committee supports over a million people every year. In Afghanistan they are providing displaced families with essentials such as shelter, clean water and sanitation.

Muslim Hands

With teams working locally in Afghanistan, Muslim Hands is an an international aid agency and NGO set up in 1993. To support Afghan people fleeing the conflict they are distributing aid including food parcels, blankets, pillows, hot meals, and powdered milk for new mothers. They are setting up a mobile health clinic to offer medical support in multiple locations.

Another charity working on the ground in the country is Christian humanitarian charity Tearfund. The organisation provides life-saving support packages of basic necessities such as food, cooking equipment and hygiene products.
