“Help fill a tummy and we’ll fill two more,” promises Barclays in their campaign to support Fareshare handing out free meals to deprived households. Until 28th February 2021, for every £1 you donate to the food charity, Barclays has pledged to donate £2 more up to a total of £1 million, through their Covid-19 Community Aid Package.
The Barclays Group chairman, Nigel Higgins, said: “Covid-19 has created an unprecedented social and economic impact in the UK, with many sadly experiencing greater hardship due to the crisis. Incredible charities, such as FareShare have been playing a vital role in the UK’s response to the pandemic, ensuring urgent help reaches those most in need of support. As a bank, we have been doing all we can for our customers, clients and colleagues.”
As the UK’s longest-running food distribution organisation, Fareshare helps charities provide food to over 900,000 people per week, helping over 10,000 charities and community groups. To date they’ve provided over 50 million meals consisting of 24,074 tonnes of food.
Since lockdown measures began, the number of charities applying to get food has tripled. Of these, FareShare has now signed up 500 new charities, over 80 per cent of which are delivering food parcels to families and individuals at risk of hunger.
But they can’t stop there. Right now, over eight million people in the UK are struggling to put food on their table. This is why the work of charities like Fareshare, providing food to people who need it, is so vital at this time.
You can help further their important work by donating to Fareshare via the Barclays campaign. A monthly contribution of £5 could help provide 20 meals a month, with £10 this increases to 40 meals, and £25 is enough to provide up to 100 meals a month.
