For anyone that grew up in the UK, Macmillan Coffee Morning is a fundraising event that is often looked forward to in a lot of towns and neighbourhoods across the UK.
Organised by Macmillan Cancer Support, this annual event happens with the help of selfless volunteers that host small-scale events, and the money raised goes towards forwarding Macmillan’s work to support individuals affected by cancer.
The Macmillan Coffee Morning has become a popular and cherished tradition, bringing people together for a good cause while enjoying good company and delicious food. So, if you’re new to the UK or you’ve never participated before, here is a little guide on what you need to know and how you can get involved before the big day tomorrow!
1. Host a Coffee Morning: Individuals or groups sign up to host a coffee morning. They can choose a date, usually happening on the 27th of September, but can happen on other dates, and invite friends, family, or colleagues to join them.
2. Bake and Brew: Hosts prepare a variety of baked goods, snacks, and, of course, coffee or tea to serve to their guests. Many participants enjoy showcasing their baking skills, and it’s common to see a range of delicious treats.
3. Fundraising: Guests are encouraged to make a donation for the food and drinks provided. Many hosts also set up additional fundraising activities, such as raffles or games, to raise even more money for Macmillan.
4. Community and Awareness: Beyond fundraising, the event serves as an opportunity to raise awareness about cancer support services and to foster a sense of community among participants.
5. Impact: The funds raised during the Macmillan Coffee Morning go directly to supporting people living with cancer, helping to provide services such as nursing care, emotional support, and information resources.
