Since skyrocketing into the public eye thanks to his role as Oberyn Martell in HBO’s Game of Thrones, Pedro Pascal has become one of the internet’s favourite heartthrobs.
The thing that sets him apart from his peers is that the adoration of his fans is not there only thanks to his good looks and acting prowess, but also because he seems to be a genuinely good person at heart.
At Smiley News, we love Pedro Pascal and the work he is consistently putting in to make our world a better place. That’s why we’ve put together the definitive listicle on Pedro Pascal - five reasons he is such a Positive Icon.
Even if you’ve only dipped your toe into the pool of Pedro Pascal, you’ll know of his love for his sister, Lux, and by extension, the LGBTQ+ community.
Lux has spoken out many times, telling Spanish-language magazine Ya how Pedro has been like “a guide” to her, adding, “He was one of the first people to gift me the tools that started shaping my identity".
Pedro regularly shows how proud he is of Lux, and everyone else who is being true to themselves, including The Last Of Us co-star Bella Ramsey, who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns.
Celebrity private jet usage has come under fire in recent years, citing damage to the environment caused by aviation fuel.
This made it all the more special when footage came out recently of Pedro taking a regular economy flight from the UK to France for the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. The jump across the channel only takes around two hours, making it much more eco-friendly to join a public flight.
True connoisseurs of Pedro Pascal will note that the link in his Instagram bio is to Doctors Without Borders or Médecins Sans Frontières, a charity which provides medical care to people impacted by conflics, climate change, epidemics and myriad other global issues.
He is a staunch supporter of this incredible charity, regularly encouraging fans to engage and donate through his social media.
Additionally, Pedro made headlines earlier this year for wearing the Protect The Dolls T-shirt, designed by Connor Ives, all the proceeds of which go towards Trans Lifeline, a trans-lead US- based charity that delivers life-saving services to those who need them most.
Pedro regularly stands up for nations and people who are being harmed by others, using his powerful platform for good. He often posts on his Instagram about vulnerable people, tagging charities like Doctors Without Borders, who are doing amazing work.
When Pedro was a child, his family fled Chile as refugees, seeking asylum in Denmark before finally settling in the US. Consequently, Pedro has spoken openly about his family’s experience and in support of refugees everywhere.
If we’ve heard it once, we’ve heard it a thousand times; Pedro Pascal just seems like a really nice guy. And, honestly, we’ll keep saying it!
All reports seem to be that he is kind, down-to-earth, and hugely supportive whether you are his friend, co-star, or just some random off the street. In a recent interview on Jimmy Fallon, Bella Ramsey was able to report back that no, it’s not an act, he really IS that nice. Humanity might be alright, after all.
At Smiley Movement, we like to elevate the work of charities across the world. Here are three charities whose causes align with the themes in this article.
Switchboard. They provide an information, support and referral service for lesbians, gay men and bisexual and trans people – and anyone considering issues around their sexuality and/or gender identity. Support them here.
Choose Love. This is a UK-based non-governmental organization (NGO) which provides humanitarian aid to, and advocacy for, refugees around the world. Find out more here.
Doctors Without Borders or Médecins Sans Frontières. This charity provides medical assistance to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from healthcare.
