This plant-covered housing is zero carbon

Words by Smiley Team

On the shore of Canada’s Lake Ontario, Toronto will gain a remarkable addition to its cityscape - a series of timber constructions of more than 800 housing units, overspread with plants and aiming to be zero carbon.

‘Toronto’ is an Indigenous word meaning ‘forest by the water’, and Quayside, as the development is called, pays tribute to the city’s roots, designed to support both people and the planet.
