Running Bee Foundation and FareShare team up to end hunger

Words by Smiley Team

The Running Bee Foundation has teamed up with FareShare, the UK’s largest charity fighting hunger and food waste to raise cash, inspired by Marcus Rashford’s passionate campaign for free school meals.

The 4-week challenge will see runners complete a race of their choice, whether that be 1 mile, 5K, 10K, Half Marathon or even a Marathon over the 4 week period in a bid to help the charity support as many young people as possible.

The Running Bee Foundation provide grants from the profits raised from all its UK races to give to community initiatives across Manchester and the North West, and help to promote health and wellbeing.

Runners taking part in the event will pay just £10 and can take the race at their own pace over the course of the event – even by walking, jogging, running or even cycling - with all profits going to FareShare. Participants will also receive a medal by post.

Marcus Rashford’s campaign, which has already prompted more than 10,000 meals distributed on the first day of the half-term alone, aligns closely with the Running Bee Foundation’s ideals – which aims to promote health and wellbeing within communities and in the lives of children.

This year has been FareShare’s biggest year yet with a huge increase in the number of community groups benefiting from their service. The number of charities that were supported by the charity increased to 10,962 and the number of people accessing FareShare food each week rose to 933,178.

‘We’ve all seen the amazing work Marcus Rashford has done, and continues to do, by using his status to raise awareness in challenging the government to end child poverty - no child should go hungry." Carl Austin-Behan OBE DL, Chair of Trustees of The Running Bee Foundation, commented.

‘The hospitality sector – those most effected by COVID-19 restrictions - are all pulling together to supply meals to school children over the holidays.

‘We may not be able to physically provide meals but with the profits raised from people taking part in The Running Bee Foundation's #EndChildFoodPoverty virtual run, we can all support Marcus’s campaign for free school meals.’
