Wind turbine blades turned into bridges

Words by Smiley Team

Recycling is all well and good, but the more we can re-use in the world – the better it is for the planet. And if we’re hoping to aim for a circular economy, then re-using things we thought were destined for landfill is the place to start.

In January 2022, the Re-Wind Network successfully managed to construct a bridge in County Cork, Ireland, using a wind turbine blade. They called it “BladeBridge”.

The construction was done in partnership with Munster Technological University and University College Cork.
