Lucinda Light on emotional intelligence, wellness, and spreading positivity

Words by Abi Scaife

“Life has been the biggest teacher because I've lived it fully, saying ‘yes’ at most turns.”

Lucinda Light, the standout star from Married At First Sight Australia, captured the world with her positivity. Full of love and light, she describes herself as “a soul mama”, loving on and supporting those around her as she pulls them into her embrace.

“I am not a mum. I always thought that I would be but I think the world is calling me in other ways,” explains Lucinda. “I do feel, in a way, a mama to many. I've got lots of children in my sphere and the village seems to be expanding.”

“I love people. I love the collective. I've got a lot to share.”

During her tour, An Evening with Lucinda Light (no spoilers!) she speaks about where life has taken her, the trials and tribulations, and some of the difficulties that have come her way. She also speaks about a debilitating back injury and the mental health struggles that came with it - but also of finding the strength to work to overcome these challenges.

“I [was] blessed with very unconditionally loving parents. I was raised in a very healthy, secure, loving house. But there's definitely been times where I felt quite dark,” admits Lucinda.

“It's not that life has not had its dips and troughs but I really believe in being positive and the radical acceptance of others. I practice accepting, loving and sharing positivity. There's a lot of love in my heart.”

Lucinda means ‘light’ in Latin, and so Lucinda found her ‘soul name’. She went on to adopt ‘Light’ not just because of her attitude to life but because of what she aspires to be.

“‘Light’ was a bit of a soul name that got gifted to me,” explains Lucinda, whose core values are described in her name. Each letter has assigned to it a trait that she works to reflect and uphold; Love, Inspiration, Generosity, Humour and Truth. “‘Light’ extrapolates those values.”

Perhaps the best thing about Lucinda’s ethos is that it is not about the absence or rejection of negativity - sadness, like all emotions, has its place. It’s just that that place isn’t permanent; it is to be felt, understood and worked through.

Lucinda’s talk is about emotional intelligence and wellness - something that is a big part of her, and something her fans recognised and resonated with when watching her on Married at First Sight.

“I don't really think I'm an expert on emotional intelligence as such, but I think it's something that I'm always learning and passionate about,” explains Lucinda. “Everything that I'm sharing on stages is not me being an expert - it's storytelling. There's a lot of power in sharing our stories.”

Along with her talk, Lucinda is opening up the floor at each venue for a Q&A, so that she can get more specific with advice, expand on any of her lessons - or even just get to know her audience a little more.

When asked what she wants her fans to take away from her talk Lucinda says: “Everybody takes something different, because [the talk] is such a myriad of lessons … but just being the most unapologetic versions of ourselves. Being brave in our expression and authenticity.”

“I'm here to share and be out there in a big way and just love the global family; I reckon I've had a couple of thousand hugs this year. I can never get enough.”

There is something about Lucinda’s presence that is comforting. She is bright, warm, and genuine, and despite the fact that she is incredibly busy, it’s clear that she genuinely wants to get to know everyone she comes across.

“I love our species. We're here rattling around on this old planet; for better or worse, we're all on a journey and everybody's where they're at,” explains Lucinda. “I just find it fascinating - everybody's got something that's beautiful inside of them. There's always something to learn from somebody.”

During her time in the UK, Lucinda is joining Smiley News in meeting with two incredible charities - The Healing Horse Sanctuary, based in Birmingham, and Shelter. There are a lot of causes close to her heart, and we can’t wait to share the footage of her engaging with these incredible charities that are doing so much good.

It is a testament to Lucinda, and her work, that in the wake of her explosive popularity and rising fame, she is making time to engage with charities.

“I just love to give space to the radical gifting of the human spirit.”
