Meet the Speak Up Episode 7 Speakers: Is our Education System Ready for a Sustainable Future?

Words by Harrison Read

In the latest episode from Speak Up! by Smiley Movement, three inspiring activists come together, each with different ideas on how we can Reboot The Future.

Reboot the Future's mission is to foster a new world where we treat others and the planet as we’d wish to be treated. If followed, this simple guiding principle, known as the Golden Rule, has the power to transform our world into a more compassionate and sustainable one. It’s the golden thread that runs through Reboot The Future's campaigns, education and leadership programmes.

Meet Anthony Bennett, the CEO at Reboot The Future.

Anthony brings broad experience in the cultural, environmental and educational sectors and is particularly interested in exploring the Golden Rule across the social value of our arts and heritage; how true reciprocity can lead to a sustainable and just transition; and how schools and young people around the world will be the true engines for change.

Meet Cindy Forde, Co-Founder of Planetari.

Cindy is an author, and co-founder of two Earth centric companies: Planetari, an education platform aligned with the planetary boundaries that equips children be the innovators of a better world, and Kando, an app that pays you to work for Earth. Her children’s book ‘Bright New World’ was published by Welbeck in October 2022. Cindy has an MSc in Sustainability and Business Practice and is an award winning creative as well as holding numerous board and advisory roles including for She Changes Climate for full inclusion of women’s voices on planetary issues.

Meet Richard Dunne, Founder of the Harmony Project.

Richard Dunne founded The Harmony Project after developing the Harmony approach to learning in his previous role as Headteacher of an Ofsted-graded Outstanding school. This approach brings together subject-specific skills and knowledge around projects or enquiries of learning that take learning beyond the classroom and apply it to the real world. Each enquiry references a principle of Harmony in Nature – Interdependence, Cycles, Diversity, Adaptation, Health and Oneness. When learners understand these principles of Harmony, they learn what they need to do to live sustainably, too. It is our lack of understanding of these principles that has led us to a place where the future well-being of our planet and its people is now at stake. Richard now shares this approach across the education sector nationally and globally through presentations, workshops and school support programmes.

Be part of a conversation that transcends education, celebrating sustainability and striving for a just world. Tune in and be moved by the stories that shape our collective fight for a better tomorrow.
