Best known not for his famous namesake in entertainment, but for his unwavering dedication to animals, Simon Cowell MBE has spent decades at the forefront of wildlife conservation in the UK.
Though Simon Cowell sadly passed away last June, the Wildlife Aid Foundation remains a living testament to his life’s work – a legacy rooted in compassion, conservation, and care for Britain’s wildlife.
As its founder, Simon was more than just a familiar face; he was a relentless advocate for the rescue and rehabilitation of the UK’s wild creatures, dedicating decades to protecting the animals so often overlooked. His vision endures, not only in the countless lives saved, but in a movement that continues to inspire.
What began in the 1980s as a small, home-based rescue effort has grown into one of the UK’s most respected wildlife charities. Based in the bustling greenscapes of Surrey, the Foundation rescues, treats, and releases thousands of injured and orphaned animals each year – hedgehogs and foxes to owls and badgers – always with the goal of returning them to the wild.
With a clear mission, the charity continues to raise awareness of the everyday threats facing British wildlife, including habitat loss, pollution, and climate change.
In a quote supplied by the charity, Lou Cowell, Simon Cowell's daughter and the charity's current Managing Director said:
Simon believed that every animal matters. He was committed to redressing the damage man has done to the environment. He was passionate about the importance of environmental education and hopeful for a future in which man respects and protects the natural world.
Simon was not only our founder but the heartbeat of the charity. For over four decades, he dedicated his life to the rescue, rehabilitation, and protection of British wildlife. His absence leaves a space that can never truly be filled. Yet, his passion and purpose remain with us, guiding every decision we now make.
Simon’s dream was to build a better world for wildlife. We will be ever striving towards this vision and honouring Simon’s legacy by securing Wildlife Aid’s future.
In 2023, Simon was awarded an MBE for his services to wildlife, recognising a lifetime of compassion, commitment, and impact.
